“The Love of God is poured out into our hearts by the Holy Spirit Who has been given to us” (Romans 5:5)

A fourth century story from the Fathers of the Egyptian desert, which stirs my spiritual desire every time I hear it, is the spiritual counsel that Abba Joseph gave to his disciple, Abba Lot. The story goes like this:  Abba Lot went to see Abba Joseph and he said to him, ”Abba, as far as I can, I sing the Psalms, I fast a little, I pray and meditate, I live in peace and as far as I can I purify my thoughts. What else can I do? Then the old man stood up and reached his eyes to the heavens. His fingers became like ten pillars of flame and he said to him, ”if you want why not become totally fire!”

“Our God is a consuming fire!” (Hebrews 12: 29)

The heart of Jesus burns with the fire of the Triune God. Jesus, the Son of God, came to this earth with a fiery mission. He proclaimed: “I have come to light a fire on the earth. How I wish the blaze were ignited !” (Luke 12: 49) The risen and glorified Christ, through the Holy Spirit, dwells with His Heavenly Father within you and me. Jesus ardently desires to enkindle within our hearts the fire of divine love, for He knows that His divine love poured into our hearts has the power to transform us into His faithful and true children, sharing in His very own life.

“See what love the Father has bestowed on us in letting us be called children of God! Dearly beloved, we are God’s children now; what we shall be later has not yet come to light. We know that when it comes to light we shall be like Him.” (1 John 3:1-2)

This gives us great hope as we can now truly share in the joy of Jesus by striving to live in His Heart where the Trinity is all in ALL.
